Computer and Art Courses
for Seniors
It is a
scene typical of a high school computer classroom. But the participants
are not your typical high school students. This class is held after
school hours for senior citizens eager to learn about computers.
After
the idea was presented to seniors by HEF Board Members Leslie Lang
and John Cassimatis with a favorable reaction, the HEF committed funds
to start a beginners computer course. With the full support of the
Board of Education through Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Gulick,
the enthusiasm of Jennifer Hunsinger (District Technology Supervisor)
and instructor Noreen Ranallo, and additional assistance from High
School Honors students, the introductory course began with success.
The
response to the first class has been so positive that there are now
two beginner classes and one advanced class being taught by Ms. Maria
Russo and Ms. Geraldine Ryan at the high school. The success of the
computer program has inspired the expansion of instructional courses
for senior citizens in other areas as well. Recently an art course
became available for seniors at the middle school.
To
be eligible for a course, you must submit an application, be at least
60 years of age and be a resident of Hillsborough Township. Applications
are available through the Board of Education office at the Municipal
Complex. Class size is limited and applications are accepted on a
first come basis. For more information please call the Board of Education
369-0030, Ed Prymowicz 359-6619 or Lou Possemato 369-4474.
