"FIELD OF DREAMS"

The Hillsborough Education Foundation, a New Jersey nonprofit, 501(c)(3) corporation and a group of dedicated volunteers are committed to obtaining sufficient private support to enable the development of a state of the art artificial turf playing field that will allow multi-purpose use for the children of Hillsborough.  Donations will be in the form of cash and donations in kind sufficient to have the field prepared, purchased and installed exclusively with private funding.  Proceeds from the sale of bricks and other contributions will help us fund this gift.

WHY:  There are numerous reasons to install the synthetic turf including:

Ø       The time is right to invest in the installation of synthetic turf that will save the township money in the long run.  This would eliminate the need to build new fields if we can get better use out of our existing fields.

Ø       Utilization of this field would be unlimited compared to the current 10-15 events held annually.

Ø       Most Varsity teams that compete on fields can play the majority of their home games in the Stadium at Hillsborough

Ø       Soccer, field hockey and lacrosse can play double headers and early evening games without damaging the field

Ø       The turf can be used in any weather condition; baseball and softball can use it as a practice site if the practice area is wet

Ø       Any rubber cleats or sneakers can be on worn on the surface

Ø       This alleviates the township’s field shortage by allowing increased access to the township youth and recreation programs

Ø       Clubs or organizations could hold fundraising events or tournaments in the stadium.

Ø       Hillsborough could host major Track Meets, Boys and Girls Lacrosse and Soccer Championships and Field Hockey tournaments.  HHS could be designated as a site for NJSIAA Championship events.

Ø       The surface would not require irrigation; in times of significant drought, water shortages within the township would not be compounded by the use of sprinklers.  Recycled, STERILIZED ground up tires is used as infill.

WHEN:

Our goal is to have obtained sufficient financial support and to have completed any other steps required for the development of the field in time for use in September 2004.  If this is not possible, the completion date is targeted for no later than August 2005.
